Do Now: Discuss with your group:What is a memory? What is the act of remembering?

After discussing these questions, then come up with a metaphor for memory. For instance:

Turns out your memory is a lot like the telephone game, according to a new Northwestern Medicine study.

Every time you remember an event from the past, your brain networks change in ways that can alter the later recall of the event. Thus, the next time you remember it, you might recall not the original event but what you remembered the previous time.

SWBAT:
-Practice Close-Reading of a Text by analyzing repetition, meatphor, narrative style to convey emotional experience
-Make nonfiction/fiction connections.

AGENDA:
1 Discuss do now and: How selective is memory? What do we remember and why? What effects memory?
2 Re-read Paragraph that begins on the bottom of page 33. Draw a visual that represents how O’Brien thinks memory and stories work.
3 Pair, share, draw… Ms. Masterson’s attempt, discuss
4 Listen to Radiolab’s “Memory and Forgetting,” with particular attention on 16:00-20:00. As we listen, please take notes in the margins of the podcast note-taking chart and make one connection to TTTC.
5 Return to our memory metaphors.
