Day 4 NE

A Second Empire Couch
Do Now: Use the worksheet to take note of what you know about Garcin, Inez, and Estelle so far.

Today's Learning Target:
I will be able to explore the setting and the symbols in the play and connect Sartre's choices to existentialist ideas (the absurd, existence precedes essence, choice, responsibility, etc.).
I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can describe important features of the setting and the objects used as symbols.
-I can explain how at least one of the symbols or elements of the setting connects to an existentialist idea.

Agenda:
  1. Setting and Symbolism in No Exit
  2. Continuing the play (begin on p. 7 "About a month" and read until p. 13 "...fight it out face to face.")
  3. Work time in lab (steps of the writing process)
  4. No exit ticket: Which existentialist concept is most clearly addressed in the play so far? How?

Small Daily Task: Use your capstone journal to gather evidence that supports your thesis statement. Begin categorizing the evidence and drafting topic sentences.

FOR MONDAY: Outline your m to m essay. Feel free to use the template in the packet. (An outline will include: your thesis, 2-3 topic sentences, 2-3 examples per topic sentence)
